Backgammon is perhaps the world's oldest continuously played board game. The game has been enjoyed around the world for nearly 5000 years. Isn't it time for a little update?
MicroGammon was created to update this venerable game. Compressing it makes it easier and faster to learn and play. Providing faster play keeps with the desires and interests of the younger generation, thus making it accessible to more people.
MicroGammon isn’t just an update to traditional backgammon. It’s unique enough to have received a US patent. Invented in North Bend, Washington - the home town backdrop for the iconic and world renowned "Twin Peaks" TV series.
The Rules
The rules of MicroGammon are fundamentally the same as they are for the normal backgammon game. If you know how to play backgammon, you already know how to play MicroGammon!
2/3rds Compression
MicroGammon is basically 2/3rds of a normal backgammon game having 16 points instead of 24, 10 checkers instead of the normal 15 and using a 4 sided dice rather than the traditional 6. The result is a game that is much faster paced and more volatile.
Truncated Tetra… what?
In geometry, the shape of the MicroGammon dice is called a truncated tetrahedron. Technically, they have eight sides but only four stable landing positions. They are key to making MicroGammon a fast game, as doubles happen 50% more often (1 in 4 rolls compared with 1 in 6 roles for cubic dice).
For those who enjoy gambling on backgammon, the game allows players to achieve results faster with much more game value boosting action (as with a traditional doubling cube) given the rapidly shifting dynamics presented by MicroGammon.
